WA electricity retailer Synergy accused of misusing market power

Competitors have complained Synergy is selling electricity to consumers cheaper than wholesale, in a bid to force other suppliers out of the market
State-owned power generator and retailer Synergy has been accused of misusing its dominant position to damage competitors in the WA electricity market.
The State Opposition has released emails it obtained under Freedom of Information in which three companies accuse Synergy of anti-competitive behaviour and seek the intervention of Energy Minister Mike Nahan.
Opposition Energy spokesman Bill Johnston said the emails vindicated concerns raised by the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) in a report earlier this year, which was dismissed by Dr Nahan.
"What this shows is that Dr Nahan got it wrong when he [attacked] the Economic Regulation Authority this year," Mr Johnston said.
"The Economic Regulation Authority raised these very same questions in their report."
