Electricity prices are set to increase again in 2017/2018

Take a close look at your energy bill. Does it look higher than normal? Did you suddenly run through various scenarios where you used more power than normal? Maybe the air conditioner was on longer than normal for a few days? Did you just have a sudden pang of guilt? Well don’t. Your bill has likely increased due to the higher cost of the electricity tariffs rather than your consumption. Unfortunately, the Tariffs will continue to increase.

Energy prices in Regional Queensland are regulated by The Queensland Competition Authority (QCA), however this does not include South East Queensland (SEQ) region where retail electricity prices were deregulated on 1st July 2016 to allow for more market competition.

The increase to the cost of electricity in recent years has been fluctuating with some years showing steady increases and others revealing s dramatic surge.
