POWER PRICE HIKES EXPECTED, AGAIN
Just in time for winter, electricity price hikes have been reported for NSW, with other states expected to follow. The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has approved a 1.5 per cent rise in power prices from July 1, in line with the rise in consumer prices.
This will see the household electricity bill rise by $10 to $35 a year for households, with price rises of 100s still possible once a major federal court case has been determined.
Similar results are expected in SA and QLD, where a new report this week found the overvaluing of Queensland’s electricity networks has left consumers paying 40 per cent more for power than they should be, at least until price deregulation comes.
